Engage Sponsors Movember, Local Firefighters

Mental health and cancer are two of the most serious plights on men’s health, and although funding and awareness are improving, too many men are dying before their time. Movember is a movement to increase awareness of cancers and mental health disorders the afflict primarily males, and you may recognize the people supporting the cause by the mustaches they are suddenly wearing when the calendar turns over to November.

To give the situation some context, consider that globally, men die 6 years earlier than women. To make it worse, the reasons are largely preventable. 1 in 7 Canadian men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. Testicular cancer is the most common cancer among young men. 3 out of 4 suicides in Canada are men. Pretty shocking, right? The Edmonton Fire Department has taken this initiative to heart, because firefighters, due to the nature of their work, are more susceptible to both cancer and mental health problems such as PTSD. That’s why we are very proud to have met with firefighters from the Roper Station at 5604 50th Street and had a chance to make a donation to support their Movember team, which is a part of the Edmonton Firefighters team that has currently raised over $13,000! If you’d like to get involved, please follow the link below to support Edmonton’s firefighters and men everywhere as we try “change the face” of men’s health and prevent men dying too young!
